Brandon’s Entry #3

Brandon’s Entry #3

Part 1: Who did you interview and what did you find out in 150-200 words.

Kevin Vaughan-- epic scar story

Kevin's story starts out when he was 7 years old moving into his new home in France. Kevin's French family friends had given them a tour of their new town just outside of Paris and were now about to show them around the neighborhood and finally end the tour with the new home. Kevin and his family had not had an extensive tour of their new abode and they were very exited to get inside and look at all of the rooms and fun places for entertainment and relaxing. After seeing all of the novel small town coffee shops and restaurants they finally arrived at their new house. Entering the house Kevin was excited and hurried though the first floor with his family. He and his family were now upstairs and looking through the three bedrooms that it had to offer. They loved every room and soon the adrenaline kicked in. With one room left to view his family wanted to have some fun and race to it. 1...2....3...GO! His whole family ran down the narrow hallway wanting desperately to reach the last unknown room. Soon a push from behind by his mom would cause Kevin to stumble from the speed of his upper body unmatched by the speed of his legs. This stumbling would unluckily cause Kevin to fall right onto the corner of a decorative stand and rip his ear right open. Kevin's family was skeptical of how bad the wound really was until kevin let go of his ear and blood profusely poured out of his head. Then, he was rushed to the hospital and treated with a lot of pain killers, 8 stitches, and a funny looking head brace that he would need to wear for 4 weeks. The scar is still there to prove it today.

Part 2: Post a screenshot or a picture of a magazine spread that includes a lot of pictures that you appreciate.

Part 3: In 75-100 words, explain what you like about the spread.

This magazine spread provides a comfortable feel to the eye while also pushing the limits of material that it displays. There is a nice amount of spacing in between the pictures and text. This makes it easy on the eye to look at all the information on the page but not get overwhelmed. The use of the layout and modular design makes the sizing of the pictures complement the layout of the text. The simplicity of the spread dictates the effort that SCmagazine put into designing the layout and feel of this spread. The pictures in the spread lighten the page and make the reader imagine how good the food will taste. The color in the text also matches the color patterns in the pictures. This just enhances all of the great aspects found in this spread. In conclusion, it is a very clean and simple spread.

Part 4: What part of the layout would you like to steal and use in our yearbook?

I would love to steal many aspects of the layout and design of this spread for yearbook. The overall placement of the pictures really complements the spread as a whole. In the yearbook I hope to recreate some of this layout so that we can provide a multitude of pictures while also giving a body of information for the students to read. The use of color is another detail that I would take from this spread. Although I do not like the color of the text in the spread, they use the color in the pictures to determine a nice color of text that will complement the page as a whole. I would space out the pictures differently and resize them to fit more in, but I would keep the overall modular design of the spread the same. I also like how intermixed within the pictures is a text box displaying a very small headline of information that blends in nicely with the page.
