Brandon’s Entry #4

A Cappella club

1.
Exciting and new are just two words that accurately describe Regis Jesuit’s new A cappella club. The A cappella club is a musical club that involves singing without the use of any instruments. Students who have a passion for singing join this club in order to experience a less formal setting in which they can sing any of their favorite songs. For the A cappella club, creating a song becomes a unique experience. Students must use their vocals to not only sing lyrics, but also create different instrumental effects. The resulting sound is truly amazing. Founding junior, Jacob Weichert, says, “it is a great chance to casually sing some of your favorite songs off of your ipod or radio that you would not be able to sing in a choir setting.” Mrs. Wuertz, the club moderator, added, “It is a great chance for guys to do modern and contemporary music in a less formal setting”. Every wednesday at lunch, this club gets together to sing, be creative, and have fun.

2.
We are going to shoot the group picture on October 21 in the music room at lunch where the club will be meeting and performing their daily activities.

3.
The clubs meets on wednesdays at lunch in the music room. Here they will be singing a cappella music and this is when i will pop in and take action pictures.

3D animations club

1.
“We are the jocks of the nerds” says junior, Austin Fillipi. The 3D Animations club is a computer based club that is focused on designing, modeling, creating, and animating anything and everything graphic based on a computer. Vail Dorchester founded the club as a way to express his passion for 3D modeling on the computer and share it with others. Vail and a team of other upperclassmen lead the various activities while also providing a space to hang out and have fun. Club moderator Mr. Heidenry explains, “This club is a chance for guys to explore an aspect of computing that is not in our curriculum, but what is also cool is how many guys are in it and it is all run by students- by students for students...It is an opportunity for guys to learn and check out 3D modeling software, and just hang out. Guys who are interested in Computers, animation, game design, this is a home for them.” This club truly gives a feeling of fellowship to its members. At the 3D Animations club imagination, creativity, and fun are truly expressed in multiple dimensions.

2.
We are going to shoot the group picture this week in the windows computer room at office hours where the club will be meeting and performing their daily activities.

I scheduled the original picture on the day I got back from Kairos. I will make it up this week.

3.
The 3D animations club (which I helped form) meets on mondays at office hours and members are encouraged to meet on off scheduled days in order to expand their knowledge and foster community.

Brandon’s Entry #3

Brandon’s Entry #3

Part 1: Who did you interview and what did you find out in 150-200 words.

Kevin Vaughan-- epic scar story

Kevin's story starts out when he was 7 years old moving into his new home in France. Kevin's French family friends had given them a tour of their new town just outside of Paris and were now about to show them around the neighborhood and finally end the tour with the new home. Kevin and his family had not had an extensive tour of their new abode and they were very exited to get inside and look at all of the rooms and fun places for entertainment and relaxing. After seeing all of the novel small town coffee shops and restaurants they finally arrived at their new house. Entering the house Kevin was excited and hurried though the first floor with his family. He and his family were now upstairs and looking through the three bedrooms that it had to offer. They loved every room and soon the adrenaline kicked in. With one room left to view his family wanted to have some fun and race to it. 1...2....3...GO! His whole family ran down the narrow hallway wanting desperately to reach the last unknown room. Soon a push from behind by his mom would cause Kevin to stumble from the speed of his upper body unmatched by the speed of his legs. This stumbling would unluckily cause Kevin to fall right onto the corner of a decorative stand and rip his ear right open. Kevin's family was skeptical of how bad the wound really was until kevin let go of his ear and blood profusely poured out of his head. Then, he was rushed to the hospital and treated with a lot of pain killers, 8 stitches, and a funny looking head brace that he would need to wear for 4 weeks. The scar is still there to prove it today.

Part 2: Post a screenshot or a picture of a magazine spread that includes a lot of pictures that you appreciate.

Part 3: In 75-100 words, explain what you like about the spread.

This magazine spread provides a comfortable feel to the eye while also pushing the limits of material that it displays. There is a nice amount of spacing in between the pictures and text. This makes it easy on the eye to look at all the information on the page but not get overwhelmed. The use of the layout and modular design makes the sizing of the pictures complement the layout of the text. The simplicity of the spread dictates the effort that SCmagazine put into designing the layout and feel of this spread. The pictures in the spread lighten the page and make the reader imagine how good the food will taste. The color in the text also matches the color patterns in the pictures. This just enhances all of the great aspects found in this spread. In conclusion, it is a very clean and simple spread.

Part 4: What part of the layout would you like to steal and use in our yearbook?

I would love to steal many aspects of the layout and design of this spread for yearbook. The overall placement of the pictures really complements the spread as a whole. In the yearbook I hope to recreate some of this layout so that we can provide a multitude of pictures while also giving a body of information for the students to read. The use of color is another detail that I would take from this spread. Although I do not like the color of the text in the spread, they use the color in the pictures to determine a nice color of text that will complement the page as a whole. I would space out the pictures differently and resize them to fit more in, but I would keep the overall modular design of the spread the same. I also like how intermixed within the pictures is a text box displaying a very small headline of information that blends in nicely with the page.

Brandon’s Entry #2

Part 1:

Part 2:

I like this picture because it is a quality picture of the aquatic sports elective. It shows many students in action working as a team to achieve the ultimate goal of knocking down the opposing goal post. This picture also shows students reacting to what is going on. Despite the bad lighting in which this picture was taken, this picture has great lighting and you can see the detail of the water and the movements of the students.

Part 3: Brainstorm at least 15 different moments at RJHS in the next month that deserve to have a yearbook photographer taking pictures.

1. Activities fair
2. The outside all school mass
3. Homecoming game
4. Club pictures
5. cross country meets
6. Freshman football
7. JV football
8. Varsity Football
9. Freshman soccer
10. JV soccer
11. Varsity soccer
12. Back to school dance
13. People in halls
14. office hours
15. kids in class
16. Faculty

Brandon Curran Entry #1

1)

The summer had just begun. As any other student would be, I was exited for incoming days of relaxation and stress free time with close family and friends. Everything seemed to be in order for a great start to the summer. Unluckily, this excitement was short lived. I had to take the ACT. This news was like a train had run off its tracks and made its newfound pathway toward my hopes and dreams. All of my excitement and feelings of relaxation were affectively obliterated. I had yet more hours of studying and hard work ahead of me, then additional boring hours of pure test taking to reach the end result. I would be spending days sitting at home or in a classroom preparing while others enjoyed their fresh summer freedom. The challenge at hand was not an easy one; prepare for the test, take the test, get -hopefully a good- grade. I started by doing all the necessary preparation. To succeed in conquering this challenge I had to put in hard work and make sacrifices. Test day finally arrived and the nerves hit hard. I was not about to let all the preparation I had done go to waste. While taking the test all of the strategies I took to learning came to me like I had known them all of my life. I finished the test and knew that I had done well. I had beaten this challenge. Test scores came in to prove that I had got a 29 and I would be free from stress like that for the rest of summer.

3) This picture has good composition because it shows not only framing, but also action. This picture makes the viewer feel a very musical setting and lets them begin to imagine what it would sound like had the player in the background been rehearsing in real life. You can clearly see that the player in the background is performing but also learning. This is invaluable in a picture.
